The Black Death (Bubonic plague) Started in the early 1400's when infected fleas got on rats that eventually made their way to Europe. The black death killed more than 30%-60% of Europe. The plague infected random villages and random people. Many thought it was a because of God and that started the Orthodox cult of Flagellants who whipped themselves and tortured themselves to show God that they were already suffering for their sins and do not need to be infected by the plague. Some people even beleived that if someone who is infected with the plauge could pass it on just by looking at you. Some Catholic supremacist blamed Jews or foreigners for bringing this disease to Europe. Treatments for the plague were as extreme as draining blood or having a pigeon suck the blood out of you. One remedy that seemed to work was for the pope who was told to bar his doors and windows closed, he then lit the chimney and set a certain herb on fire, he was cured soon after. The Black Death lasted wildly for 4 years, then stopped infecting entire villages. The Black Death is believed to have infected and killed 85% of Germany and 70% of France.
